Combining the best of sampling and synthesising, iZotope’s Iris 2 is a powerful instrument for designing unique and evolving patches that add captivating textures to your music. In this course, Bass Music producer and renowned sound designer Seppa teaches a multitude of techniques for creating basses, pads, leads and FX, to beef up your knowledge and give you the confidence to start designing sounds of your own.
Seppa begins the course with a detailed lesson on the Iris interface, leaving no stone unturned as he explores every control and operational feature within the plugin, providing a solid basis from which to start crafting different types of preset. Focussing on the spectral display, he then shows a technique for extracting sub from a bass sample, which can be incredibly useful for making sub patches or adding sub-layers to a preset.
The next 2 modules dive further into bass design, first showing how to combine an acoustic instrument with a synthetic waveform, to create an evolving hybrid sound, before using all available sample slots to make a 4-layer bass. Following this, Seppa shows how a collection of foley samples can be skilfully layered together and then modulated with numerous LFOs to make a surreal natural soundscape for adding original touches to your production.
The final 2 patches include a huge, lush pad and a simple pluck, both incorporating multiple layers of samples that add unique frequencies to the presets, which are then shaped using the required envelopes and processed with FX.
Purchasing the course gets you immediate access to over 3 hours of tutorials, plus 10 bonus Iris presets: 5 made on the course and 5 additional ones custom-made by Seppa. Buy today to start learning sound design with Iris and acquire the fresh knowledge and inspiration you need to begin creating cutting edge patches of your own.

Modules
Module 1 - Plugin Interface
Seppa kicks off the course with a lengthy stroll through the Iris User Interface, to help properly familiarise you with the available controls and synth architecture, before starting on sound design techniques in the subsequent modules.
Module 2 - Extracting Sub from a Bass Sample
A useful technique for sub frequency extraction from a bass sample, using the Iris spectrum display, for easy creation of sub-bass patches or layers for underpinning presets.
Module 3 - Combining Acoustic and Synthetic Sources to Make a Bass
Multiple sample slots are combined so that synthesised and acoustic instruments can be woven together to form an organic bass patch, with the stable bottom end from a sawtooth layered with the higher frequencies of a double bass.
Module 4 - Four-Layer Bass
All 4 sample slots are used to combine stacked square and sawtooth waves in order to design a huge bass patch, complete with enveloped reverb and rapidly LFO-modulated noise.
Module 5 - Foley Weirdness
4 unique foley samples are artfully combined to produce a weird and wonderful FX patch, perfect for adding evocative textures to your music.
Module 6 - Big Pad
Seppa creates a massive pad preset by stacking up various synthetic and acoustic samples, then applying repitching, spectral shaping, modulation and spatial effects.
Module 7 - Simple Pluck
The final patch is a simple but useful one that combines multiple layers together to form a rich base, which is shaped with enveloping and processed with effects to produce a versatile lead preset.
